The year is 1889, and all across the United States of America railroad engineers are struggling with shoddy overalls that aren’t up to the job. Never one to miss a business opportunity, a quick witted New Yorker by the name of Hamilton Carhartt decides to take matters into his own hands, and after grilling every railroad worker he meets, sets about creating the first pair of overalls designed specifically for the rigours of the rails. Made from thick cotton duck with triple stitching and even a pocket for your hammer, these overalls soon become the unofficial uniform of the US railroad worker.

Over 124 years later, Oi Polloi are proud to stock Carhartt’s Work in Progress line. Taking the hardy nature of their classic workwear, but with sharper fits and more comfortable fabrics, these jackets, t-shirts and trousers are tough, no nonsense basics that are more than capable of putting up with a bit of stick.
