Talking to the Animals with Ralph Lauren

Published: Tue Aug 21 2012

As well as being pretty handy in the menswear division, it’s no secret that our mate Ralph Lauren has quite a way with the animals. Like a well-dressed Dr Doolittle, ol’ Ralph and his soft tones have convinced many an animal to sacrifice itself for a good garment — he even managed to one-up Mr Burns. “See my loafers, former gophers?” Not bad Monty — but Ralph’s were made of croc-skin.

Where are we going with this? Well, whilst assessing the label on the Polo Ralph Lauren Leather Trim Shetland we noticed that not only had The Master harnessed the powers of the majestic merino sheep, but the gansies in question also featured a dusting of Angora rabbit hair. After a quick search courtesy of Jeeves, it was revealed that Angora rabbits are… “a variety of domestic rabbit bred for its long, soft wool.” Yep, these aren’t your garden variety rabbits, just have a look at these funny-lookers.

And don’t worry animal-fans, these little critters aren’t killed for their luxurious fleeces, their hair is harmlessly plucked in what Ralph assures us is quite a painless operation.
