adidas

The story of adidas is a classic tale of sibling rivalry. In the Bavarian town of Herzogenaurach the brothers Adolf (or Adi to his mates) and Rudolf Dassler both ran the successful sports-shoe company Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik. Although the company was an instant success, the brothers were always squabbling, and after a few fallings out (including a hilarious prank in which Adi told American troops that Rudolf was a member of the SS) they drifted apart. When Rudolf left to form Puma at the opposite side of the town, Adi took Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik as his own. Surprisingly he changed the name pretty quick and, after buying the trademark three stripes from the Finish sportswear brand Karhu (for two bottles of whiskey and the equivalent of 1600 euros), adidas was born.
