In 1947 theTsunemi KK company became one of Japan's major importers of American workwear and denim and in 1961 they started producing jeans in Japan under the name Edwin.

By 1963 they had produced the world's heaviest denim (16-oz), these jeans, as legend goes, would stand up on their own even after washing and were the first to incorporate Edwin's famous three-colour rainbow selvedge, which is still used on their jeans today.

They are also famous as one of the few denim brands still hand-dying their cotton with natural Indigo, harvested from the plantations in the traditional Indigo growing region of Tokushima. This gives the denim a richer and more natural colour than the chemical dyes which became popular in the late 60s.

They have been the number one denim company in Japan since 1983, but it doesn't stop there - their fanatical attention to detail is evident across their range. The sweatshirts, knits and jackets are superbly finished and the more you look at them, the more you will appreciate the amount of work that has gone into each and every garment.
