Fans of Chinese basketball in the 70s should no doubt recognise the low-profile wonderment of Warrior, but for the uncultured members of the audience, here’s a quick primer.
Founded in 1927, Warrior was one of China’s first athletic shoe companies. Quickly rising in popularity, by the 1970s Warrior became the quintessential Chinese basketball shoe, and was also a firm favourite among China’s working-class.
Since then, not a lot has a changed, and that’s just the way we like it. They may not be quite as technologically advanced as something that’s just flown off the end of a modern-day construction line, but in our eyes, that’s a part of their underdog charm.
And that eye-catching, rubbery arrangement on the sole is a traditional Chinese wood pattern… but you obviously already knew that.
