If you’ve been into footwear for any amount of time, you should be familiar with the story of PUMA. In the Bavarian town of Herzogenaurach the brothers Adolf and Rudolf Dassler both ran the successful sports-shoe company Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik. Although the company was an instant success, the brothers were always squabbling, and after a few fallings out they drifted apart.
Adolf went on to start adidas, whereas ol’ Rudolf founded Puma on the other side of town. Under Rudolf’s direction, PUMA was a shadow of his brothers’ massive company, until his son Armin came along and transformed PUMA into one of the biggest footwear companies on the planet.
