The story of Mammut goes all the way back to 1862, when a man by the name of Kaspar Tanner started making climbings ropes. These were an instant hit with the 19th century’s craggy-faced mountaineers and quickly became the don dada of the climbing rope game.

It took awhile for Mammut to leap into the clobber realm, but in 1978, Mammut began making hiking jackets using an ultra-futuristic fabric known as ‘Gore-Tex’.

These days, Mammut are world-renowned for making proper hardy mountaineering equipment, including some incredibly hard-wearing jackets that are sure to be a godsend when outside starts looking like the arctic base in The Thing.
