Hands up everybody who thought that Burlington was Scottish. We used to until we found out that they started life in Germany in 1968. It all makes perfect sense when you consider that the Germans are quite obsessive about their footwear. In 1977, Burlington became a cult brand almost overnight with the introduction of 'Argyle' socks. The check design originates from the tartan of the Scottish Campbell Clans led by the Duke of Argyll. Then, in 1985 the Burlington Clip was introduced as the unmistakable trademark of Burlington Argyle socks.
