Birkenstock is one of the oldest brands we stock, dating back to 1774. This lot originally started out making orthopaedic shoes until 1964, when footwear prodigy Karl Birkenstock had the ingenious brain-wave of making a summer-friendly sandal version.

Rarely seen outside Germany until a woman named Margot Fraser discovered them, at one of them weird ‘fish-eat-your-skin’ spas. She carted them off to America, where the orthopaedic sole and relaxed style made it a standout hit at blowouts and protests.

Today Birkenstock continues to stick to the original ethos, making dangerously-comfortable footwear with a timeless quality.
