After retiring from tennis, René Lacoste founded La Chemise Lacoste in 1933, and began to produce the revolutionary tennis shirt René had worn on the courts. You know, that one with the signature crocodile embroidered on the chest. Despite being established 33 years prior to Ralph Lauren’s existence, Lacoste fought it out with the pony man for years. Today, the choice Lacoste or Ralph generally comes down to colour and cut, the American polo is cut longer and narrower, and Lacoste’s is slightly shorter with a bigger collar.
