Cat Soup is that rare breed of animated film – one that seems custom-built to bemuse adults and traumatise children.
It should go without saying that it’s incredibly good, and most certainly worthy of 30 minutes of your time.
While the story doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, Cat Soup follows an anthropomorphic kitten as he journeys to the land of the dead in a quest to reclaim his sisters soul, encountering a litany of grotesque freaks during his mind-bending sojourn.
It’s the kind-of gleefully insane fare that self-serious bores usually turn their noses up at, but fans of the macabre and bizarre will not be disappointed.
