Celebrating the 100th birthday of ace tattooist Norman ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins, Homeward Bound: The Life and Times of Hori Smoku Sailor Jerry is a cofee-table style book, acting as a bit of a heads up to precede the critically-acclaimed cult-film ‘Hori Smoku Sailor Jerry’ which is set for UK DVD release later in 2011.
With previously unseen photos and essays collected during the making of the film, the 128-page, hardbound book recalls the era and artistic legacy of Norman Collins, the father of old-school tattooing. His visionary style inspired an entire generation of tattoo artists and his influence is still recognised today.
To mark the release of this cracking book, we thought we’d give a few away to the most deserving tatt-fans amongst you.
All you have to do is share your tattoo photos with us and we’ll pick winners based on our favourites.
The best three will receive a copy of this ace book and the overall winner gets an OiPolloi gift voucher worth fifty squids. That’s £50 in OP tokens to spend on whatever you want. It doesn’t have to be an amazing work of art either…in fact we encourage the good, the bad and the ugly.
To share your images, either leave a comment on this article with a link to your picture or if you’re a Facebook dweller, simply post a pic on our Facebook wall. Feel free to tweet us too.
In the interests of fairness, we’ll also accept felt tip entries from those of you who don’t have real tattoos. The only criteria is that all entries are honest and come from you, not a google image search for “dead good tattoos”. We’ll suss you. Likewise, make sure it’s yourself you take the pen to, not your drunken mate.
The competition will run for a week and we’ll announce the winners via the usual channels (shouting / smoke-signals). Good luck.
