Onetime Fat City face Christian ‘Woody’ Wood provides this edition of the OiPolloi Monday Mixtape series. Woody’s well known on the Manchester club scene, being responsible for promoting the Counter Culture and Friends & Family parties for a good number of years, as well as DJ-ing at countless other underground occasions. When I first met him, many moons ago, he was rocking the interesting pairing of Gore-Tex Sprayway and Russian Ushanka… Rainy City sartorialism at it’s finest. But I digress – back to the music… More recently Woody released his debut album ‘Born With Teeth’ under the Crowhead alias (it’s something to do with his Salfordian squawk) on Andy ‘Aim’ Turner’s ATIC label. A smörgåsbord of analogue synth squelch, the roots of the albums influence lie in the type of classic dance tracks the Crowhead’s chosen for us here… electro, house, acid, techno, hardcore and boogie funk are all represented… alongside a lone number (thankfully) from Lionel Blair. This from the crow/man himself:
