Polo Ralph Lauren

Born as Lifschitz not Lauren, Ralph is a native New Yorker and spent his formative years in The Bronx. Lauren always had his eye on making a name for himself. In his college yearbook, under his photograph was a quote stating he intended on becoming a millionaire. While working for Brooks Brothers Ralph decided he'd get a nice little sideline on the go, and started designing and selling ties.

Once he had established himself, Ralph decided to strike out on his own properly and in 1972 he created the Ralph Lauren take on the Lacoste tennis shirt. Henceforth, that style of garment became known as a polo shirt. Much of what Ralph has achieved since has been based on that simple aesthetic, with an emphasis on a lifestyle that echoes his own.
