The Air Max 1 trainers were the first Nikes to bear the Air Max name back in ‘87. Designed by architect/footwear dreamweaver Tinker Hatfield, they were inspired by the Centre De Pompidou in Paris. To the untrained eye this might sound a bit odd, but the exposed air cushion on the sole was a direct reference to the visible air ventilation found on France’s premier modern art institution.
