Japanese by birth, the designer Daiki Suzuki has been living and working in the USA since 1989. He started out in Boston where he was a buyer for some of Japan’s top stores and was responsible for introducing the market to handmade moccasin shoes, authentic hunting wear, the traditional ivy league shirt and handknitted sweaters. His work as a buyer and researcher led him to become one of the major experts in traditional American outdoor wear. Gradually his innate understanding of the authenticy of individual pieces influenced his career and led him to become a designer. In 1991, he moved to New York where he began work on his Engineered Garments line- launched in 1999- designed in partnership with Todd Killian and initially only for the Japanese market, now also available from Oi Polloi.
