Kato is a Japanes brand by Hiroshi Kato. Kato was a long time denim consultant for many different worldwide companies, but grew tired of consulting. In the words of the Japanese denim maestro, "brands asked us to make the best denim, which we did, and then we were asked to reduce the quality to meet their profit/ pricing needs, but a reduction of this kind is hard for us to deal with, we'd tried to make the best using the best, but profit margin was always an issue. Being in the lucky position of having our own looms, we were able to produce the best, so we did it for ourselves at first, just to prove it could be done."

Anyone that knows anything about denim, will know that Kato denim is about as serious as it gets. The knowledge and enthusiasm that goes into their products is mind boggling... they only use the very finest cottons and dyes, and are the only brand to still use double harvest Indigo dyes and long fermented plum/ flower dyes, they are also one of the few remaining, small, independently owned denim producers left in Japan.
