John Smedley have been producing knitwear in their mill in Matlock, Derbyshire for over 220 years. There are some crucial ingredients that go into producing such a fine quality garment . They start by selecting the best raw materials from around the world. Then they knit and fully fashion each garment, only using linked seams- a process where every joining stitch is linked together by hand. This eliminates any uncomfortable and unsightly ribbed seams. Care and attention to detail are of utmost importance. They use only the finest Derbyshire spring water for the wet finishing and dying process that gives them their super soft handle. Over 1 million stitches and over 35 hand finishing operations go into producing each piece.
