Corgi Socks
A travelling salesman named Rhys Jones opened a small warehouse shop in 1893, delivering items of drapery by horse and cart to the small hamlets of west Wales. In the early 1900s, the enterprising Mr Jones purchased a number of second hand 'Griswald' hand operated circular knitting machines and started production of woollen socks for local coal miners.

Two generations later, Glyn Jones was experimenting with the the Griswald machine and developed what was later to become known as 'Argyle' socks. Within weeks, a buying team from the world famous American Brookes Bros stores, after seeing the socks on sale in Dublin entered into contract for a regular supply.

To cope with the growing demand, additional Griswald machines were purchased and in 1947, Corgi Hosiery Ltd was born, named after the Crufts Supreme Champion of that year - a W
