Aquascutum or “water shield” for those who know their Latin, are famed for the development of one of the first rain-repellent fabrics. Founded in 1851, Aquascutum built its reputation on its outerwear, developing the Raglan sleeve for Lord Raglan and they still send detailed stitching and embroidery work out to the Royal School of Needlework to this very day. They are also one of the few major British brands still to have their own factory, and now also design fabrics using an Italian mill.
The label has been adopted by everyone from Humphrey Bogart and Peter Sellers, in the past, and now, under the guidance of CEO Kim Winser (formerly of Pringle) and designer Graeme Fidler (formerly of Nigel Cabourn and Ralph Lauren), Aquascutum has managed to create a new, contemporary edge that remains very much in touch with it’s fine heritage
