Through the Magpie Eye: Wright Morris

Published: Wed Apr 22 2015

Born in 1910, Wright Morris was a man who took a lot of good photographs of old American buildings. This is probably selling him a bit short, as he also wrote loads of novels and short stories and things like that, but for the sake of this quickly hashed-out blog-blast, let’s just talk about his nice pictures shall we?

Not one for fancy gimmickry, his pictures are straight up, straight on shots of the sorts of buildings where people with names like Wyatt or Emmett might live with a few scrawny hens and a lame old mare that should have been put out to pasture years ago.

If you’re into this stuff then you’d probably like Wright's 1946 half-photo, half-story book, The Inhabitants.
